Terms of service

1. Agreeing to these terms
These terms apply when you use the Sojiwa app (on Android and at app.sojiwa.com) and this website. Sojiwa is run by the Sojiwa team in Malaysia ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using Sojiwa, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Sojiwa.
2. Who can use Sojiwa
You must be at least 13 years old to use Sojiwa. If you're between 13 and 17, you need the permission of a parent or guardian, and they agree to these terms on your behalf. We may close accounts that we believe belong to children under 13.
3. What Sojiwa is, and isn't
Sojiwa is a journal and a gentle companion: mood check-ins, a private journal, optional AI reflections, breathing exercises, a pet and a community. It is not a medical service. Nothing in Sojiwa, including AI replies, community posts and articles on our website, is medical, psychological or psychiatric advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it doesn't replace a qualified professional.
We work to make Sojiwa helpful, but we can't promise any particular result for your mood or wellbeing.
4. Your account
- Give accurate details when you sign up, and keep your account to yourself. One account per person.
- Keep your password and devices secure. You're responsible for what happens in your account. Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else is using it.
- The passcode lock protects the app on your device only. If you forget it, you can sign out and sign in again.
5. Community rules
The community is meant to be kind. When you post, comment, react, join groups or send notes and gifts, please don't:
- harass, bully, threaten or shame anyone, or encourage self-harm;
- post hateful, violent, sexual or illegal content, or content involving minors in any sexual way;
- share someone else's private information, or pretend to be someone else;
- post spam, scams, advertising or misleading information;
- post content you don't have the right to share.
You can report posts, comments and people, and block anyone. We review reported content and may remove it, limit features, or suspend or close accounts that break these rules. Group owners and admins can also remove members from their groups.
Some community content and accounts are operated by Sojiwa, and may be written with the help of AI.
6. Your content
- What you write and upload (journals, posts, comments, photos) stays yours.
- You give us permission to store, process and show it as needed to run Sojiwa: for example, to show your posts to other users, to create the AI analyses you ask for, and to keep backups. This permission ends when your content is deleted, except for copies kept as described in our Privacy Policy.
- Anonymous posts hide your name from other users, but they are still linked to your account and remain subject to these rules.
- If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them freely without paying you. When we adopt an idea, we may give co-creator rewards, but we decide whether and what to give.
7. AI features
AI journal analysis uses third-party AI models and runs only after you agree to it (see section 4 of our Privacy Policy). AI replies are generated automatically and can be incomplete, inaccurate or unsuitable. Please use your own judgement, and don't rely on them for decisions about your health. If a reply seems wrong or harmful, report it in the app.
8. Tokens, pet coins and purchases
- Tokens are used for AI journal analysis. You can earn them, for example through check-ins, missions, referrals, birthday gifts and redeem codes, or buy token packs. Tokens have no cash value, can't be exchanged for money and can't be transferred to other users. Any remaining tokens, including purchased ones, are lost when your account is deleted.
- Pet coins are earned only through self-care in the app. They can't be bought, sold or transferred, and they have no value outside Sojiwa.
- Buying on Android is handled by Google Play and its terms. Refund requests for Google Play purchases go through Google Play and its refund policy.
- Buying on the web (app.sojiwa.com) is handled by Stripe, and prices are in Malaysian ringgit (MYR). Tokens are digital items delivered immediately, so all sales are final, except where you were charged twice or the tokens didn't arrive. In those cases, email [email protected] with your receipt and we'll sort it out.
- If a purchase is refunded or charged back, we remove the tokens from it (your balance won't go below zero). If an AI analysis can't be completed, the tokens it used are returned automatically.
- Your rights under Malaysian consumer law, including the Consumer Protection Act 1999, are not affected by these terms.
Prices, token rewards, missions, redeem codes and other promotions may change or end. We may remove tokens or rewards gained through mistakes, abuse or breaking these terms.
9. Using Sojiwa fairly
Please don't misuse Sojiwa, for example by:
- creating several accounts, or using bots or scripts, to collect rewards, tokens or referrals;
- copying, scraping, reverse-engineering or interfering with the app, its servers or other users' accounts;
- using Sojiwa for anything illegal, or to send spam.
10. Ending your use of Sojiwa
You can stop using Sojiwa at any time and delete your account in Settings › Account › Delete account. You have 30 days to change your mind, as explained on our delete account page.
We may suspend or close your account if you break these terms or the law, or to protect other users. Where reasonable, we'll tell you why. If we close your account for breaking these terms, unused tokens are not refunded. If we ever stop running Sojiwa, we'll give you reasonable notice so you can download your data.
11. Other services
Sojiwa works with services run by others, such as Google Play, Stripe, Google sign-in, and websites or helplines we link to. Their own terms and policies apply to your use of them, and we're not responsible for them.
12. Our responsibility
We provide Sojiwa "as is" and "as available". We try to keep it running smoothly and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free or secure.
As far as the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of Sojiwa. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited under Malaysian law.
13. Changes to Sojiwa and these terms
Sojiwa will keep changing as we improve it, and features may be added or removed. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we'll let you know in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Sojiwa after that, you accept the new terms.
14. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia, and the courts of Malaysia have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you have a problem, please email [email protected] first; most things can be sorted out quickly. If you live outside Malaysia, you keep any rights your local consumer laws give you.
